The name "Angénieux" is legendary in the film industry since decades, and the Optimo zooms range represents the pinnacle of everything this reputation is based on.
For most DoPs worldwide, the Optimos are a safe bet. Always faithful to the Angénieux look, they offer an exceptional sharpness and controlled contrast to create a rich, cinematic image, which will benefit from the performance of the very high resolution sensors without accentuate the “video” look often associated with digital .
Their very robust mechanical design will meet all the requirement of a modern cinema set, with a smooth and expanded focus scale as well as standard front diameters and drive gear for all three rings.
Two ranges exist within the Optimo zooms:
- a lightweight range, consisting of a 15-40mm, 28-76mm and a 45-120mm. With a length around 20cm and a weight under 2kg, they are ideal for shoulder or Steadicam work. They also benefit from a good maximum aperture of T2.6 (T2.8 for the 45-120) and are very good in close focus.
- a heavier range, with a large zoom ratio, consists among other lens of a 17-80mm, a 24-290mm and a 28-340mm.
The 17-80mm is from a slightly older generation, but still maintaining excellent optical and mechanical design as well as the Angénieux look with a bit more breathing than in more recent lenses. It benefits from an excellent maximum aperture of T2.2 and a minimum object distance of 2 '.
