The Canon 17-120mm zoom is particularly popular due to its wide focal range covering a large part of the usual needs.
It will be ideal for documentary, or more generally for any project where you need to go from a very wide shot to a close-up without taking the time to change lenses, carrying only one zoom constantly on the camera.
It will be even more useful when shooting shoulder work, with a reduced footprint and weight, and with an "ENG Style" grip which allows precise and smooth motorized zoom control.
Despite being lightweight, it keeps a very good optical quality and correct maximum aperture (from T2.95 to T3.9 at maximum focal length) with modern cameras.
Furthermore, it has a flange back adjustment that will correct the back focus if it had moved after a trip or a long use.
This adjustment will also offer the opportunity to switch to macro mode for shooting at close range.
