The 56-152mm Anamorphic Zoom is the most compact and lightweight zoom in the market, exceeding the size of the small spherical Optimo 45-120 by just a few centimeters and only 0.3kg. It also benefits from a minimum object distance exceptionally short of 2'1", aberration-free and without loss of definition even at such close focus, with an almost invisible breathing.
Despite this remarkable compactness, Angenieux makes no compromises on quality. Mechanical and optical design remain excellent, faithful to the typical Angénieux look with very sharp images and a soft contrast. Already very cinematic, this look will be enhanced by the anamorphic effect, absorbing the public into the image of film with a very marked aesthetic and bokeh twice as big as with spherical lenses.
However, some sequences can call for the use of short focal effect, often hard to find with anamorphic. With a homogenous look over all ranges, Angénieux lenses can be used together on the same film, whether they’re anamorphic or spherical, retaining the same look and the same sharpness from one zoom to another.
