Designed in the 40s and gradually completed by the S3 series, the Speed Panchro series has always been a landmark and makes its return with digital cameras, prized by DoPs seeking a softer image, warm and strongly characterized that can break the definition sometimes considered as too important with digital cameras.

Far from the modern series we often use, the Speed Panchro do not take advantage of the latest developments in optics and should be used more carefully. They are quite sensitive to flare, can sometimes show a slight vignetting and aren’t always consistent throughout the series, especially in terms of colorimetry. However, these "defects", absent from modern series, are part of what the DoP looks for using the Speed Panchro.

Though their mechanics is again far from the performance of recent lenses, the P + S Technik housing offers a consistent front diameter and standard focus and iris drive gear. As such, they can be used easily with all modern cinema accessories. This very compact housing is ideal on the shoulder and make them interesting even with drones. Furthermore, the expanded focus scale allows the focus puller to work more accurately. Regardless, its advisable to stay careful with their still fragile mechanics : avoid using strong motorization and do not overtighten the clip-on!

Note that this P + S Technik housing also provides the opportunity for most lenses to move inside the housing, allowing very close focus.
