This ultra wide-angle lens is very special. Indeed, although a zoom, its interest is not actually to allow to "zoom in" in order to widen or tighten the shot. Zooming will actually expose more or less of the sensor.

The FishEye effect gives an extreme field of view diagonal of 180°, capturing everything that is in front of the lens. On a 24x36 full-frame sensor, the 8mm put the whole field in a clear circle in the center of the image, surrounded by a black border. At 15mm, the lens coverage will be extended and will cover the entire sensor, keeping the fish eye effect within a full framed image, without any black edge.

Smaller sized sensor (like APS-H or APS-C) will obviously be fully covered earlier. Two symbols ( "C" and "H") are marked on the zoom ring, informing as to when the picture created by the lens will be full framed, based on the size of the sensor used.

To fully enjoy this impressive effect, the 8-15mm f / 4 has all the optical quality of the Canon L series and USM technology enabling extremely fast and silent autofocus.
